The Defence Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network has published the readiness categories and reporting periods under which members will report on the resilience of the systems they operate on behalf of the Network. From the fourth quarter of 2026, each member will assign one of five categories, R0 to R4, to every registered Tier 1 and Tier 2 system and submit the result to the Department as a quarterly readiness return.

The categories describe whether the controls and continuity plans required by the Interim Network Defence Framework are in place and have been tested. A system assessed as not ready must be notified to the Department within five working days, without waiting for the next return. A baseline return covering Tier 1 systems is due by 30 November 2026, ahead of the first Network-wide readiness exercise.

Individual returns will not be published. The Department will publish aggregate figures for the Network once each year's returns have been received. Guidance on the categories, the reporting periods and the procedure for submitting a return is available on this site.
